For those of you who don’t know about Movember, it’s all about raising funds and awareness of the number one and two male specific cancers – prostate and testicular cancer. The funds raised are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and their men’s health partners, The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research.
I haven’t got a tash, thankfully. Although as I have got older, I have to thank my lovely beautician for keeping that along with the eyebrows in order. But my fuzz free face and I support Movember for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, because it’s close to home. My dad has been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. So for that reason alone, I thank every Mo Bro and every Mo Sister for supporting too.
I have just read over on Sticky Fingers about a group of Mo Sisters who are doing their bit, tash and all, lead by self proclaimed tash obsessive Laura. So I urge you to pop over to their sites, have a read, and support however you can. Awareness and money helps. You can donate to their team page on the Movember site.
And I’d like to leave you with these stats:
- One man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK.
- Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK
- In the UK 37,000 men are diagnosed every year, this is the equivalent of 100 per day.
- 1 in 9 men will get prostate cancer in the UK
- 250,000 men are living with prostate cancer – including my dad
- 10,000 men die every year from prostate cancer in the UK
Scary hey.
